This prototype was the first to explore the idea of a “modern oval hole mandolin”. Since building it, I have built four more that push this idea further- #20 has more power, #17mkII has more depth, etc. It has some aesthetic flaws, because I wasn’t even sure it was going to work, so I cut some corners to just throw it together as a test. Ever since I put strings on it, though, it has been my everyday player, and I am always pleasantly surprised by how good it sounds. Having some flaws is good, though — Since I would never sell it, I can have a front porch beater that’s also a really good mandolin.
